Instructions for Authors: Post-comma exempli gratia (e.g.)

Hi, in my copy-editing feedback for my R Journal article, the by far most common correction was to use a post-comma after "e.g."  Since the use of comma or not after "e.g." varies among authors and grammar styles, I can imagine this is a very common feedback, which consumes time for the copy editor and the author.

Now, I'm not sure if I was asked to use "e.g.," because I used American English, while those who write in British English may be asked to use "e.g." without the comma. Regardless, I'd like to propose to mention the preferred style of exempli gratia. If the "rule" is to try to be consistent with a grammar style of choice (e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style, or University of Oxford Style Guide), maybe that could be mentioned to help those who know what they are.

PS. While looking at 'Instructions for Authors', I just noticed that it does not use a post-comma for exempli gratia.
