That would be nice indeed. I have some private branch somewhere with preliminary support. I was waiting for the multi-view API to stabilize a bit. But looking at that link maybe it is already there? Also there was a couple of issues with the winit support, but I think their latest version solved those.

Maybe I should switch to the docking branch and just forget the master one? It actually recommends docking for advanced users.

Right now I'm a bit busy with the features/dynamic_fonts feature, but the multi-viewports is definitely on the TO-DO list.

I'll leave this issue open while I work on this, and keep updates, if you would like to test it from time to time and give feedback?

I have an experimental branch somewhere with some viewport integration... not too easy, and totally unsafe for now. The main issue is that winit is not very focused in window flexibility, more in portability. This makes things hard for anything that is not a basic main window...

In a few days maybe I can push the branch and request your comments, stay tuned.

Hi @rodrigorc , I've started using easy-imgui-rs to create internal tools, and I've encountered some limitations, such as the multi-line text input component not being able to automatically scroll to the bottom (to display the latest logs), but I'm still fascinated by it.

I'd like to ask if your dynamic_fonts need testing? Please provide a demo, and I can help you test it.

Also, what progress has been made on multi-viewports? I'm really looking forward to it.

About the multi-line text input, I think that is a Dear ImGui limitation: there is no API to manage the details of a text-input, that I know of. I've tried calling ui.set_next_window_scroll() before the ui.input_text_multiline_config() but the results are terrible.

There is this open issue ocornut/imgui#2072 that seems to be exactly your problem.

If instead you do a child window with vertical scroll and a multiline text, it would work fine for a log. Maybe you miss the cursor, and the selection, and the copy-paste, though...

About the dynamic-fonts feature, it is already released, in Dear ImGui v1.92, used by easy-imgui 0.16. It seems to work just fine, but any testing or feedback is welcome, of course. There were a few incompatible API changes, notably about the font atlas and the creation of custom fonts, but I didn't manage to write a upgrade guide. TBH, I don't know how many users easy-imgui has, and writing a guide for nobody to read seems a waste of time. If you, or anyone else, have any doubt, don't hesitate to open an issue.

About the multi-viewport, not ready yet. I had a few problems with winit that doesn't support window positioning, and a few other features on all platforms. I think I'll have to be happy with viewports working only on some platforms; we'll see.

Then the other wasm issue #12 got me sidetracked. I'm easily distracted 😉.

And then summer holidays 🌞, I've been AFK for some time... that's why I didn't reply sooner, sorry for that. I'll be back in a couple of days, and back to work!

@rodrigorc Haha, no problem. I saw it too. It's a limitation of dear-imgui itself. I was also talking about dear-imgui.

easy-imgui benefits from automatically generated binding, and its dear-imgui version is currently the highest among Rust bindings. I think easy-imgui is the future. Other versions have too high maintenance costs and will eventually stop being maintained.

Regarding dynamic fonts, I don't think you need to add additional documentation at this stage. For example, when using easy-imgui, simply reviewing your examples is sufficient. Therefore, you can place the demo used for testing dynamic fonts in the examples folder, and the same applies to multi-viewports.

Most users are on macOS and Windows, which are consumer-grade platforms. Supporting these two platforms covers the majority of professional users. Linux has significant differences in desktop environments, so I don't think it's necessary to consider supporting it. (I use macOS.)

@bnflag I have just pushed a branch viewports with a "pre-alpha" implementation of the viewport support. For now, viewports are always enabled, if winit has basic support.

Still, there are many missing things: mouse cursors, mouse warping, hidpi is flaky, monitor switching, many flags...

Additionally, there are a few missing pieces in winit:

• no transient (owned) windows, I opened an issue here. This means that when moving a viewport to its own window it may go below the main window.
• no easy way to disable the taskbar button. This means that even pop-up menus will create a temporary button in the taskbar, which is not very nice.

I tested on Linux/X11 and it works reasonably fine. Can you test it on MacOS and share your thoughts?

UPDATE: Tested on Windows, pretty much the same as X11.

@rodrigorc The window is displayed, but the main window background flickers, and the mouse flickers when moved within the main window. The program crashes when the mouse is moved to the imgui window.

This is weird. It looks like a winit bug, but hard to be sure... also it looks like a double panic.

It will be hard to debug as I don't have a MacOS around for testing. Any way let's try a few things...

I think that is a program of yours, isn't it? Can you try with the simplest easy-imgui example: cargo run --example demo? If the same bug happens, try with --release, maybe it is just a debug assertion?

Also, can you try disabling the viewports in the viewport branch? Just hack into this condition. Maybe it bugs anyways, maybe it doesn't, but that might give us hints.

That shouldn't happen. Did you try in a clean clone of the repo? maybe deleting the target directory and recompiling? If not, can you paste the compilation error?

The runtime error looks the same as before. Did you run in release mode? Can you try also with the environment variable RUST_BACKTRACE=1?

It looks weirdly similar to /rust-windowing/winit/issues/4203, but this other bug disappears in release.
