How to get MDX configured?

I am trying to get the config.ts file to support MDX. The docs don't really explain the process of getting the "@mdx-js/rollup" plugin to be configured.

In my config.ts file I have:

  vite: {
    plugins: [mdx()],
  },

But I have the following error for mdx:

Type 'Plugin' is not assignable to type 'PluginOption'.
  Type 'Plugin' is not assignable to type 'Plugin_2'.
    Types of property 'resolveId' are incompatible.

How on earth do I get mdx support?
