Error: "Could not initialise Petri Net reader!

Were changing some aspects of the Petri diagram, tried deleting some elements and resaving the file. Once it was saved I was unable to open it, due to the error of the title popping up.
I happened to run into another post about this error, mentioning that definitions prevent PIPE from initialising the XML and that removing them solves the issue. How exactly does one do that?
Any assistance would be a blessing.

What version of PIPE are you running? Please attach the file you are attempting to open. Steve
