input.ffmpeg callback on activated (attach metadata)

hi i am trying to make an http post to my api everytime a live input.ffmpeg becomes active, i have tried the following:

fallback_live =  input.ffmpeg("rtmp://#{IP_WHIP}:1935/live/fallback",  
      string_args=[("rw_timeout", "3000000")],
      max_buffer=15.0, self_sync=true, on_connect=on_start_metadata(fallback_show_id))

but it doesnt get called i can see,

i've also tried on_start=on_start_metadata(fallback_show_id) but i get the same.

what i wanna do is:

1. live_source (input.ffmpeg) becomes audible (swiitched in or something else is the cause)
2. an http post request is made to my api with the data that live_source # X is active
