Shell on Machine in maintenance mode

Hello

Right now when I create a new bare-metal node, I boot Ubuntu ISO and go run my test scripts there (Typically You want to check storage devices). I can also imagine a scenario where a node failed and you want to run some checks and/or storage recovery before re-purposing it.

For this I propose to have some tool to drop to a transient shell in a node in maintenance mode. The basic requirement would be along the lines of

• shell / is transient
• has access to network and can mount storage devices
• allows installs (root + package manager || config file with pre-packaged required tools )
• only works when node is in Maintenance state.
• Password/SSH key protected (maybe put it in the Omni GUI?)
