Bug description
When trying to transfer a Signal account between two almost identical Google Pixel phones (the difference being the one is newly installed and has more flash storage), after initializing the transfer and scanning the QR code, and confirming the Wifi network join request on the new phone, the two phones stop immediately:
- The old phone reports a transfer failure,
- The new phone reports a transfer success.
This is highly misleading. The root cause was apparently a minor version difference (7.46.1 vs 7.47.1), after upgrading the new phone the transfer worked.
I would suggest to either
- put a note "install all updates first on both phones" in the transfer instructions, or
- to check for version equality (or at least transfer API compatibility) before starting a transfer.
