Involuntary resend of years old message. Resent message not visible in chat.

Bug description

I looked through messages that I sent multiple years ago this afternoon. I also opened/focused into some of the media of said messages.

One of the messages I looked at - it was an image file and some text - got sent again to the same recipient without me noticing.

In the evening I got a smiley response from the recipient. I looked at the response on the desktop app of Signal. I there saw the message that got involuntarily sent and his response. I was perplexed and assumed that I probably must have pressed on something without noticing or that I must have put the phone in my pocket without locking it.

But as I looked at the same chat protocol on the phone, the involuntarily resent message was not visible. Only the response of the recipient.

So the resent message is visible on the desktop app but not visible on the phone.

Interesting details:

• The resent message has the exact same time of day as the original message from 2023.
• If I type a search string that only matches this message and its resent copy on the desktop app, I get two results with the same date and time. (See last screen shot.)

How can this be ? Some weird synchronization glitch with the desktop app ?

I have locally stored a debug log. I'd rather not post it on public Github.

(Note: coincidentally the recipient responded with the same smiley in 2023 as he did today. His recent response being identical to the one in 2023 is not an involuntary resend but a testament to the quality content I sent him ;)
