Hi Simeon,

Describe the bug

Similar to simeononsecurity/Windows-Optimize-Debloat#18 I've run into an error with ShellHost.exe.

First attempt was using the Windows-Optimize-Debloat Powershell script locally, no flags.

Second attempt was using the GUI for Windows-Optimize-Harden-Debloat.

Both attempts resulted in the computer stuck in a loop on reboot/login where the error message appeared while the background image flashed with black. Could not interact with Windows desktop or menu. Had to rollback to restore point via system recovery.

Expected behavior
Normal boot and usable Windows

Desktop (please complete the following information):
OS: Windows 11 Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4351)

Additional Context

  • This machine is a fairly bare-bones fresh install, with a single user with no password - only because I picked it up today and haven't created my own user.

  • No other software installed, except a .NET framework to run the GUI

  • Encountered at least one error:

Windows failed to apply the Group Policy Registry settings. Group Policy Registry settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link.

Image

  • I also grabbed the command output of the tool.

I saw in a prior ticket you asked for attempts with items disabled to track down what it might be. I may get to that soon but need to get an urgent job done first.
