Launch terminal with environment activated

It could be a nice feature to have the option to launch a terminal with the selected virtual environment activated.

However, I don't know if this could be difficult as I don't know how to launch the default terminal and run a command from python having in mind all different distributions.

Hi, thanks for your comment and suggestion.

Yeah, I've already tried to provide a button and a context menu action when clicking on an environment in the lower table to launch the OS's default terminal with the selected venv activated.
But unfortunately I only managed to launch a terminal (that's easy), but couldn't figure out how to activate a venv inside it or how to launch it with a venv activated. I couldn't even run a command inside a launched terminal, I have no idea how to reach it after it has launched.

Well, since I'm not a programmer I'll have to improve my coding skills to be able to build features that requires specific knowledge like in this case (although I pretty sure that it would probably not be so difficult).

Anyway, I'll definetly work on this one!

Hi Joey, this would be a great feature. In addition would it be also helpful to allow the configuration of the entrypoint when you open this terminal then.

I gambled a little with chatGPT around. This solutions starts a terminal with activated environment:

bash --rcfile <(printf 'source "/path/to/python/env/bin/activate"\ncd /path/to/entrypoint\n') -i

Hope that helps a little.

and here a variant to open a new terminal window:

gnome-terminal -- bash -i -c '
cd /path/to/entrypoint
source "/path/to/python/env/bin/activate"
exec bash --noprofile --norc -i
'

and the verification can be done with:

echo $VIRTUAL_ENV       # should show /path/to/python/env
which python            # should point to the venv Python binary
