Package name jsonschema already taken in Fedora

Hey, just wanted to let you know, package name jsonschema is already claimed in Fedora (and Red Hat Enterprise Linux) by python3-jsonschema project and it has bunch of dependencies like the one I work on myself: osbuild. I noticed this is a pretty new project, consider changing a name if the same situation is in other Linux distros.

The question is what your goals are, once you will have an OCI container so anyone can use it with podman or docker easily it makes probably little sense to get this into Linux distributions. Just wanted to say, cheers!

There was something like that on Homebrew too (I'm primarily a macOS user). There was a jsonschema formula (https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/blob/78bde8ce543fc902bea2afbeb70cb29a5f925b94/Formula/j/jsonschema.rb) that originally deprecated and then removed in favor of check-jsonschema (https://github.com/python-jsonschema/check-jsonschema), which is actually part of that python3-jsonschema package you linked to.

On future plans, it's really up to what the community wants. If somebody really wants it on their Linux package manager, happy to word towards that :)

Yes the python package provides the command, not exactly an alias but you got the idea.

Very unlikely this to happen, such a change is a breaking change, unless this project would provide 100% same UI (cli) and behavior. It is easier to just provide a different command.

What might help here is that the jsonschema binary coming from python3-jsonschema was deprecated (https://github.com/python-jsonschema/jsonschema/blob/main/jsonschema/__main__.py#L1) and will be removed soon, in favor of the new check-jsonschema CLI.

I have no idea whether Fedora packages jsonschema as an alias of the package or to provide the CLI but yes the CLI is deprecated -- though it's not going to be removed for at least another year I suspect.
