GIS for Water develops and maintains open-source geospatial tools to support better decision-making for water and sanitation services in low- and middle-income countries. Our libraries and components—built on MapLibre GL JS, Mapbox GL JS, Svelte, and QGIS—help engineers, utilities, NGOs, and researchers analyze water pipe networks, visualize leak probability, and create intuitive web maps and dashboards.

Sponsorship enables us to dedicate more time to building new features, improving documentation, maintaining compatibility with modern mapping stacks, and providing long-term support for critical tools like maplibre-gl-export, maplibre-gl-terradraw, and related plugins. It also helps us share best practices and training materials with the wider FOSS4G community, especially in regions where robust, open geospatial tools can have an outsized impact on achieving the SDGs.
