running Spyder on "Block untrusted fonts" group policy (windows 10)

I know this issue was discussed before. However I haven't find any solution.

If the policy of the windows is configure to "block untrusted fonts" and one cannot change it Spyder fonts don't load icon3 (on version less then 6.04) and on version greater it will not works at all.
The Spyder was installed with the windows installer on the official Spyder IDE website.

I reproduce this error on a regular pc by the following:

1. Open the Group Policy editor (gpedit.msc)
2. go to "Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Mitigation Options\Untrusted Font Blocking".
3. change it Enable and choose "Block untrusted fonts and log events" (see screenshot)
4. restart pc.

Now Spyder (6.05) won't load up and give an error message with a description of the situation and advice to install qt fonts.
I have tried to install the fonts manually, run the new script in 6.05: qta-install-fonts-all-users.exe
Nothing works.

Please find a way to run Spyder on a such policy environment.

Hey @urima, thanks for reporting and sorry for the late response. We'll take a look at this to see what's happening, but so far no one else has reported a problem about this in 6.0.5.

I also have a quick question for you. You said:

Do you admin permissions in the computer you ran that command? That's the only way it can work.

This is the solution I found:
Install all fonts by right-click and choose "Install for all users"

The qta-install-fonts-all-users.exe script says that I don't have privileges (although I have adminstor)
Copy the fonts to "c:\Windows\fonts" makes spyder to load up but a lot of icons are missing.

Sorry to hear that, I don't know why that happened to you.

Please post a screenshot so we can see how Spyder looks for you.

but so far no one else has reported a problem about this in 6.0.5.

I am in this boat (v 6.0.5). I have the "Block untrusted fonts" group policy, so can't install the fonts. Spyder won't work at all for me and is citing font problems same as urima.

OS is Windows 11.

The delete the font options from here and here also don't work.

Hey @katkoe89, I'm afraid the only solution is to contact your IT staff and ask them to install the fonts Spyder needs for all users.

The necessary font files and their location are displayed in the message we show when Spyder fails to start due to the block untrusted fonts policy.
