Could you provide a list of directories in a Statamic project that are freely modifiable for any purpose, without licensing restrictions?

While Statamic and its team work like open source, the license clearly isn't. I don't think there's a whole bunch of directories that are freely modifiable and redistributable. Statamic relies heavily on licenses for it's business model, as there is a whole team behind it that needs to get paid. And I think the way it is totally fine and isn't going to change.

Nevertheless, you are free to contribute to the project with PRs. Also, many things can be done using an addon, without the need to modify the CMS itself. Not sure what you are trying to do. Could you elaborate?

Thanks for your reply. I was looking to white label control panel. It looks like this is a Pro feature (paid), thus I was looking for a way to just replace text and logo.

Also, I don't like the constant pinging out to an external service. When the request fails, the app fails with a 500.

Most of the functionality appears to be as packages and was unsure of which files can be modified.

The homepage does state the project is open-source though.

There's a whole debate around that, also here on GH. The license clearly makes it source available by the definition of the Open Source Initiative (OSI). The labeling is rather for marketing purposes I guess.

Sure, it open available - not open source. It's misleading because, I, myself was searching for open source CMS' I could build on top of, and Statamic came up.

Looking at the code, the project has been built to not allow much room to change the code. However, it's been built on-top of Laravel, which has an MIT license and cannot be overriden. Thus, any code/folders belonging to the Laravel project (also app/, resources, etc) can be freely modified.

The verbage needs to be changed to "open available".

It's never a good idea to change the core of a project. Statamic is developing in a fast pace - you'd be out of date pretty fast. If you need the Pro features, pay for it - it's worth it. It's pretty much as simple as that. I don't think you'll find a CMS that good freely available.

In the end, it doesn't really matter what it is marketed as - Statamic is well established and works perfectly for me and many others. Whatever the license says is valid.

If you need another pointer: there's Filament PHP, another Laravel package that is open source. Some use it as a CMS replacement for specific things. Take a look into that if you want to build something that's truly yours.

That's my point, it's been built so you can't change anything. I think you've missed my point that this project is marketing as open source when it's clearly not. It doesn't matter if it's popular nor if others have benefited. It does matter what it's marketed as becaue it's misleading. You're telling me to purchase the license for something advertised as open source.

Nevertheless, thanks for the recommendation of the other framework, I'll take a look at it.
