Using pino logger with sveltekit

Due to its internal architecture based on Worker Threads, it is not possible to bundle Pino without generating additional files.

In particular, a bundler must ensure that the following files are also bundled separately...

What is the right way how to include them in sveltekit build?

Just passed by here as I look for the same answer. It seems to work out of the box, tried both node and the static adapter with no problems

It works fine with vite dev but things get ugly with vite build. For example:

I was eventually able to get vite build working with pinot with some absolutely atrocious globalThis. overrides:

import * as path from 'path'
import { fileURLToPath } from 'url'

const pathToPino = path.resolve('<your relative path>/node_modules/pino')

globalThis.__bundlerPathsOverrides = {
    'pino-worker': pathToPino+'/lib/worker.js',
    'pino-pipeline-worker': pathToPino+'/lib/worker-pipeline.js'
}

I also use pino-pretty and pino-opentelemetry-transport, so I needed these additional overrides:

globalThis.__bundlerPathsOverrides['pino-pretty'] =  pathToPino+'/../pino-pretty/index.js
globalThis.__bundlerPathsOverrides['pino-opentelemetry-transport'] = pathToPino+'/../pino-opentelemetry-transport/pino-opentelemetry-transport.js'

You may also need to add this for thread-stream:

globalThis.__bundlerPathsOverrides['thread-stream-worker'] = pathToPino+'/../thread-stream/lib/worker.js'

I just tried @zuk's suggestion and it started working.. but then I removed @zuk's suggestion and looks like it's not needed anymore with these packages:

I only had a single log line in a client/browser +page.svelte file to test so far.

Pino runs fine in dev and preview mode using vite but bombs in production using node.

ReferenceError: __dirname is not defined in ES module scope
This file is being treated as an ES module because it has a '.js' file extension and 'D:\Users\johni\Projects\npvr-client-ts\package.json' contains "type": "module". To treat it as a CommonJS script, rename it to use the '.cjs' file extension.

I managed to get it working in prod in a NodeJS environment by following this link Medium Link.

I made some minor modifications but the code has been solid for the last 2 years.

Example output - showing it works for us.
