How to force-complete or fail a job

I am able to locate a job by its id by using the getJob method. How can I force-change the status of this job?

Can you provide more context? to which status would you like to change it and why?

@manast Mainly I'd like to be able to force-complete or force-fail jobs. For example, when a job becomes obsolete before it is executed but I don't want to delete an entry for logging purposes I'd rather complete it. Alternatively, I might want to fail a job even if has completed.

The most robust solution for something like this is to make the test to decide if complete or fail inside the job processor itself. Force moving jobs from one state to another is in general not supported, other than if you are processing jobs manually, but then you loose a lot of features: https://docs.bullmq.io/patterns/manually-fetching-jobs

@manast my case is about doing that from outside of the worker context, for example, in some script or an ETL job. It sounds a bit too restrictive not to allow to do it IMHO: I understand that there can be repercussions but why not allow it for the cases when people know what they are doing?

@s-lukashenka-micoworks it is not about allowing it, its that we lack the functionality to move a job from any status to another status. Imaging a state machine where you cannot just jump from any state to any state, you need to follow the allowed transitions. As there is a lot of logic that needs to be applied when moving a job from one state to another, it is not easy to provide methods to move freely from any state to any other state. Moving from wait status to completed/failed I guess it could be implemented as they are simpler statuses, but it is not something that we have planed.
