Tests after tagging fail because of Jest Reference Error

I have a mock helper that creates mocked react components and is implemented as below:

import { MockReactC } from '@user/react-testing';

jest.mock('./demo-component', () => MockReactC('DemoComponent'));

This works fine when running bit test but for the tests ran with bit tag after the component has compiled I get the following error:

ReferenceError: /.../Library/Caches/Bit/capsules/f4cafc2b463e0d3534230a7e05ff29591d289c99/[email protected]/dist/main-component.test.js: The module factory of `jest.mock()` is not allowed to reference any out-of-scope variables.

Bit is compiling the component into the following:

jest.mock('./demo-component', () => (0, react_testing.MockReactC)('DemoComponent'));

Which part of the Bit build pipeline is causing this?

This also occurs if I mock react components as below:

jest.mock('./demo-component', () => {
  function MockedComponent(props) {
    return (
      <div>
       demo
      </div>
    );
  }
  return {
    __esModule: true,
    DemoComponent: MockedComponent,
  };
});
