glib python dependency

Updating Termux packages I noticed huge increase on needed storage and downloaded data. Now glib¹ depends on freaking python. How remove python I don't use?

Python is a hard dependency of glib scripts. You can not remove python without breaking it.

You suggest me use old oudated Termux version without glib stupid python dependency?! Who decided such radical change? Some noob! Did Termux team try build glib without python? Or just go with flow and do as they say. Looks like best solution currently is fork Termux and build myself without python.

Mister, calm down please. Just because you are unhappy with the new requirement from the glib package does not give you the right to insult the Termux team. If you continue to talk like that, you will be banned.

@twaik said the real fact that the glib package contains components that python requires to work (for example, the codegen module and the gdbus-codegen, glib-genmarshal and glib-mkenums commands). Your suggestion to disable python in glib will break the compilation of other packages, because it will disable those components that are required for compilation.

Have Termux team considered statement (package) based package installation? Example, if I need python install glib-python instead glib and so on. Have Termux team considered, have talked about optimizing (squeeze as much possible) packages size etc.? As time goes all package managers (homebrew, macports etc.) become bloated and build with philosophy "What sticks is good enough". I already ignore homebrew and macports and build what I need myself. Starting to consider to do so with Termux. Or maybe provide repo (termux-optimized, termux-minimal, termux-squeeze call it as you like) with minimal and optimized as much possible packages to able run Termux.

Python is a core dependency of most distros, just like bash or other shells, etc. Termux bootstrap still not having python is a miracle enough. Feel free to fork glib and remove/rewrite any python dependent code and maintain it.

Could the Termux team set the python depends on in repo to only those packages that really need it - codegen module and the gdbus-codegen, glib-genmarshal and glib-mkenums commands)? It's nothing wrong use python building packages.

Arch splits these out into glib2-devel.

We couldn't do something similar.
Though usually we do not make a split between a package and it's development components.
