Most of the major new changes from Home Assistant Voice PE have now been back-ported to newly released ESPHome 2025.2

Alternative is to base on the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition repository but thinking it might be better to use upstream mainline ESPHome if possible.

In short: it's not possible yet, as the Onju uses a single hardware I2S bus and ESPHome does not support full duplex. More over, this pull request does not seem to fix the problem.

A proper duplex implementation (similar to gnumpi's abandoned approach) needs to happen before we can move further.

OK so a workaround could be to use @gnumpi's esphome_audio instead with the "Dev next" PR patch @dimonb submitted to that repo?

At least @VivantSenior posted a comment there saying that mananged to compile your onju-voice-satellite with that patch.

PS: I understand the current FutureProofHomes Satellite1 hardware also uses single duplex i2s channel for both microphone and speaker?

The current implementation of the config already uses gnumpi's library :)

I can compile the config with the new ESPHome components just fine, but that does not mean that it works as a voice assistant.

I did not follow the Satellite 1 project closely enough to speak about their issues.

You shouldn't be able to compile the current mww version : two things are broken the version of esp-idf and the gnumpi library , both have a workaround but none are implemented.
