difference between release and repo content

I wanted to make a pull request. I cancelled it.
The actual version you can copy from the repo has no start on boot option in settings, when the last release version has.

I'm going to copy the content from the release into my cloned version and update the code, then make a pull request and add a first modification in a 2nd pull request. If you don't answer, since apparently I didn't have a response, I'll give up, but hey, at least I'll have pointed out the problem to you.

Ah ok, it only appears on the exe version. The compilation deletes all other existing files in the folder. but some files are needed. like icon...

Hi @3C0D ! Sorry for the late replies; I've had some unforeseen personal stuff keeping me busy.

The "start on boot" option is intentionally hidden when running from source. This is because Linux users use the program by running from source (and we shouldn't show them a Windows start on boot option), and plus, start on boot wont work without the compiled exe anyway. Here's how I've implemented this check if you're curious:

The AutostartManager.py contains a check in the is_compiled() method that detects whether the app is running from a compiled exe:

  def is_compiled():
      """Check if we're running from a compiled exe or source."""
      return hasattr(sys, 'frozen') and hasattr(sys, '_MEIPASS')

These attributes (sys.frozen and sys._MEIPASS) are only present when the app is packaged with PyInstaller.

In get_startup_path() (lines 29-30), it returns None if not compiled:

  if not AutostartManager.is_compiled():
      return None

Then in SettingsWindow.py (line 215), the checkbox is only created if get_startup_path() returns a valid path:

  if AutostartManager.get_startup_path():
      self.autostart_checkbox = QtWidgets.QCheckBox(_("Start on Boot"))

So what you noticed isn't a bug. At the same time, I'm working on improving & fixing the start on boot option (as the last update broke it welp!).

On another note, I see that you're working on a bunch of improvements. Since I'm working on an update at the same time, I think it would be best if you don't open a PR at the moment, and instead craft your version in your own fork (otherwise, we'd both have mege conflicts!)

Once I'm done with my improvemnts, I'll take a look at your changes from your fork . At that point, I'll let you know if there's any new thing you added that I think we could copy onto the main version, and of course give you credit for all that and list you as a contributor :)
