Window Immediately Closes When Using kitty sh -c "chezmoi edit $HOME/.config/hypr" in Hyprland

Hi I'm trying to replace the command kitty -d ~/.config/hypr/ nvim ./hyprland.conf with kitty sh -c "chezmoi edit $HOME/.config/hypr" to trigger chezmoi edit via hotkeys in Hyprland, aiming to open a scratchpad with the specified window.

The full command would look like workspace = special:settings, on-created-empty:[float; center (1); size 80%] kitty bash -c "chezmoi edit $HOME/.config/hypr".

However, the window opens and then immediately closes. What should I do to fix this issue?

What happens when you run chezmoi edit in a normal terminal?

Your editor is set to VSCode, so chezmoi edit will open VSCode, not nvim. Why do you need kitty?

You are correct. I then attempted the following commands without success:

bind = $win, Y, exec, bash -c "chezmoi edit"
bind = $win, Y, exec, chezmoi edit

These commands did not initiate any processes (as verified with btop) nor did they produce any visual output.

I suspect that this is not a chezmoi problem. Can you reproduce the issue if you run a different command in the kitty terminal? For example, what happens if you replace chezmoi edit with nvim (or other terminal-based editor of your choice)?

Terminal-based applications such as nvim and btop, when executed directly using bind = $win, Y, exec, nvim, fail to produce any visible output despite initiating processes (these process are visible in btop and do not close unless manually terminated). To fix this, I use bind = $win, Y, exec, kitty nvim, which works as expected.

I suspect the issue stems from the interaction between Hyprland, Kitty, and Chezmoi rather than from any of the individual programs themselves, though I am uncertain about the exact source of the problem. Please let me know if a visual demonstration would help clarify the situation.

I'm sure that the problem exists. chezmoi uses the Go standard library's os/exec.Cmd.Run function to run the editor, which is completely standard.

What I need to know is:

1. What is the evidence that this is a bug in chezmoi, and not a bug in Hyprland or Kitty?
2. What change do you expect chezmoi to make?
