Errors when using Justfiles with recipe parameters in .chezmoitemplates directory

I have recently started using just and Justfiles. I have a main .chezmoitemplates directory which also includes a repository as a git submodule that contains most of my shell scripts.

Everything was fine until I included recipe parameters:

  @echo 'Building {{target}}…'

This example in .chezmoitemplates directory will break at least chezmoi apply and chezmoi data.

Am I just unlucky? Am I too careless about content to put in such directories? How could I do better? Refraining from using parameters in Justfiles, to not break chezmoi, will be difficult.

I tried looking for a solution and one LLM hallucinated to put this at the top of a file:

There are multiple ways to resolve this but I'm on my phone and don't have easy access to the results.

You would need to either change the default delimiters for this chezmoi template or escape them ({{ print "{{ target }}" }}).

The problem is that chezmoi treats everything in the .chezmoitemplates directory as a template, including the Justfile. Treating the Justfile as a template triggers an error because it contains {{target}} which is an invalid template because the function target is not defined.

Can you put the Justfile in a different directory, say the root directory of your dotfiles?

Parameters prefixed with a $ will be exported as environment variables:

foo $bar:
  echo $bar

I need to check this later. Looks like I can avoid using {{ var }} expressions.
