It would appear that this was possibly a bug as it seems to have been resolved sometime between versions 134.x and 136.x. In 136.x, everything would seem to function as it previously did, so I'll close this discussion. |

Hi. I didn't know if it would be appropriate to open an issue for this, so I figured I'd ask here first.
Starting with version 134.x, the "site search" functionality was rather radically altered. I recognize the intended functionality of this feature as part of Chromium to pre-supply a query directly into a given URL, but in all prior versions (<=133.x), I was also able to utilize this function – sans-query – for shortcut-based access to specific URLs. That is, I could create a "site search" entry by entering a commonly-visited URL, similarly to a bookmark, then adding a shortcut, not providing any trailing wildcard, and use the shortcut to reliably navigate to the specific page. For example, I could visit "youtube.com" simply by entering the character "y" in the address bar or "amazon.com/orders" by entering "az" and always receive these results, regardless of prior entry or page-visitation history.
As of version 134.x and later, existing entries of this nature no longer function and new entries are now required by the browser to contain the "%s" wildcard, preventing the use of custom shortcuts strictly for URLs. I'm not sure of the effort that may be required to implement and maintain such a request, but would it be possible to simply return the prior functionality, letting the user choose how he wants to utilize the "site search" feature? Perhaps this could be accomplished via an Ungoogled Chromium-specific feature flag.
