velero in AKS cluster (CSI backup on RWX fileshare Managed CI volume snapshot storage

Hello, I use velero (1.15.2) in recent AKS cluster 1.30.9 api with CSI backend enabled and data mover enable with plugin azure: velero/velero-plugin-for-microsoft-azure:v1.11.1:

Context of my question: I tried to test backup /restore process PVC on classe storage file.csi.azure.com (azure file share azure subsystem storage on azure) using CSI snapshot with succes without using externalisation of snapshot : backing a pv/pvc and restoring content OK of alreday existing fileshare : the underlying storage store the snapshots in the scope of the fileshare itself (a dependency life cycle is etablished between fileshare and the snapshot(s) chain(s).

My question is the following:

When I delete a pvc of storage class filesharing with delete policies: the fileshare is destroyed with all chain existings snapshot. So the restauration process failed, because it does no find the original snapshot on storage account managed by aks. So I decided to use data mover with velero trying to externalise the snapshot in the storage accounted managed by velero (whitch contains backup list , restore list meta data objet). But the process of the uploader failed at 0% data and with failure status without any code error.

Does velero datamover can externalise snasphot from fileshare objet azure? I don't see explicit document it's says it 's supported or not supported (the implement of csi snapshot class on Azure file share storage are relativily recent with AKS)

Per @mayankagg9722 you cannot delete PVC or file share snapshot will disappear

Velero has not claimed official support for azure file share yet.

Data mover on file volumes is not a supported scenario. Maybe you can open an github issue and upload Velero log bundle, we will see if there is any quick fix/workaround.
