Welcome to go-protoc-gen-builtins, a distribution of code generation plugins from protoc that can be installed or run with Go. In conjunction with Buf, it becomes possible to have reproducible protobuf builds with no OS dependencies, everything can be configured to work with go run.

Because Go requires modules to increment their version when major versions change, behavior that adds maintenance burden here and on users each time, we choose a naming scheme of v1.<MAJOR>.<MINOR>, with <MAJOR> and <MINOR> being the versions of the corresponding protoc release. Because protoc does not use a <PATCH> component, this is straightforward, but if that changes in the future we will consider alternatives.

As the first release, there may be some issues with packaging or the WebAssembly invocation of the plugins that need to be ironed out, please file any issue you find so we can fix it.
