Trouble with 32:9 Ultrawide and Picture by Picture mode

I have just added a Mac Mini to my setup but I am having some trouble getting the display settings set up right.
I have two problems:

1. When in 32:9, HiDPI isn't supported for 3840x1080 for some reason.
2. When I use the Picture-by-Picture function on my monitor to split my screen between two inputs, the display settings are all forgotten. I would like to it to remember that when the mini is taking up the full screen it should be 3840x1080, and when it's half the screen it should be 1920x1080. But every time I switch the PBP mode it resets my settings. My other input is a windows laptop and I had a PC before the Mini, and both of those have no problems with this feature.

Can anyone please help me set this up better, or recommend a tool that might be better suited to my needs?

Yes, with the mini 3840px HiDPI is not available (the limit is probably 3072px) except for the M2 Pro model (and with some displays maybe the M4 models).

The display's PBP feature might report the PBP and non-PBP displays as separate displays, you need to configure the settings for each. You should check whether the display's UUID is changing or not (in the app under the display's settings tab check Display Information... to determine this). In the app you can conflate the two variants (even though the system will set them apart), but that is not really useful. You can configure configuration protection to set the proper resolutions for each. If however by default the two variants are not reported as separate displays, you might have difficulties making the system remember the proper resolution for each (but still it is possible).
