Custom inter-Model transitions possible?

Has anyone ever tried an inter-modal view transition like this one?

I was hoping the history/state of the modals in wire elements would let me do it, but switching from one modal to another always first closes then opens the next one, which is a little jarring for what I'm going for.

I realize I can handle this myself by switching views and letting the morph do the heavy lifting, but I"m curious if there is another way I haven't considered.
