Request: WIFI Toggle via Button

Hi Aircoookie / WLED Team,

I love WLED and use it on an ESP32 Dev Module. I wanted to request a small feature: the ability to toggle Wi-Fi on and off using a physical button, with optional LED feedback via the onboard led like it being on when WIFI is running otherwise off, this would enable me to use the wled with less power as WIFI will be off and I dont need it since I do no have a router and plan to control wled with a IR remote, and when I need to change any setting I will turn WIFI on again in AP mode using the button.

Currently, I’ve tried creating a usermod myself, but it’s a bit complex for me. Having an official toggle option would be very helpful for users who want to reduce Wi-Fi usage or run WLED in a “local-only” mode.

I understand you’re busy, but I thought I’d suggest it for future updates and this feature will be really useful for me and others also. Thank you for your amazing work on WLED!

I am not a member of the WLED team, but I would still like to help you.
Under Settings > WiFi > “Bottom,” you have the option to enable “Wi-Fi sleep mode” (or disable "Disable WiFi sleep") and configure the transmission power. This should help minimize power consumption for the time being until a better solution is found.

FYI I have implemented WiFi On/Off API as part of my (ongoing) ESP-NOW rewrite. It is available in my fork, but it will require you to familiarize yourself by checking json.cpp file.

BTW WiFi sleep is not really a correct solution (though it will lower power consumption) since WiFi will still be on. It will also cause issues with UDP traffic (sync, AR, etc).
