why are things slow?

I have a feature request.

I use MenuMeters to find out why my Mac is running slowly.

Sometimes that's because it's using virtual memory, so it would be nice to know how much virtual memory is being used. Sometimes I guess my USB bus is saturated with traffic to external hard drives, so maybe it could indicate that too. Maybe show what process was doing the activity.

But what would be nicest would be if it were smart enough to know that it was being slow, and figure out why, and display a word about it in the menu bar.
