Why not WGPU for rendering

Just recebtly i hve found out that zed isnt using WGPU for rendering instead zed is making its own , but why?

I think they started developing their own before WGPU was mature enough.
Furthermore, initially Zed was not open source and they wanted to make sure they controlled the license.

BTW you may want to edit the subject from "Why now" to "Why not" — I do not mind spelling mistakes, but this one is changing the meaning.

I am asking this question because zed has facing problems related to windows support,
one of the problem is related to rendering so I think wgpu has become quite reliable and zed should give a try so that more devs can work on other things

Well, I think the issue is that they would have to port a significant amount of code to WPGU if they wanted to change the graphic backend. Writing a shim instead would be doable, I guess, but it would not be clean and would introduce maintainability issues.

I think that, in the long run, moving to WGPU would be a good decision, and maybe some unique features of GPUI could be contributed to WGPU, but this is definitely not something that should be done before 1.0.
