Absolutely broken compact mode 1.17t

What happened?

I opened Zen after an auto-update and it was broken since startup. I use only sidebar mode, with my sidebar pretty wide, but it started like this and when i clicked the tabs they wouldn't open.

(except for the essentials, which, when opened, the rectangle that indicates it's open is deformed)

If you pay attention at it, the icons aren't even lined up, which makes me think it just got the width fixed by some pixels.

Not only I tried to change the toolbar mode from the pop-up menu on the sidebar, but I went to preferences to change it in the look and feel tab, making no difference.

Expected behavior

My sideber should have been the usual width I set

Actual behavior

The sidebar width was fixed and didn't let me modify it with my mouse, nor change the toolbar mode.

Open Zen Twilight 1.17t on Windows 11 (Intel i5 11th gen)

Also having this problem.

I have mine in "sidebar only" yet it's forcing a broken sidebar and topbar, changing settings makes no difference.

No, I can not.

This looks like the collapsed toolbar layout (with some bad alignment) instead of compact mode. Maybe try alt+b shortcut?
Or make sure you pick the left option and not the right:

If you have the Nebula theme or (sidebar related) mods, try disabling/removing them.
(Those folder icons look custom, hence this suggestion)

@Propheticus i have the same thing with this update I'm not at my laptop right now but I did try to change the look and feel with those options but selecting either of them didn't change the layout issue. It seem persistent and I don't have any mods installed

As I checked on the preliminary checks, i tried to disable every mod i had and that didn't solve anything, i restarted Zen with every mod turned off, my computer too, and it is still not fixed
@Propheticus I tried every layout and it still doesn't work

btw: i don't know if you were talking about my folders or what but i do not have any mods that modify that, the previous update automatically changed its colour

@aspidzon Can you test in troubleshoot mode by holding the shift-key while launching Zen? (or ... menu > help > troubleshoot mode)
Not all mods disable the changes they have made when you disable them.

If this doesn't work a next test would be trying in a new profile (can be made in about:profiles)

I mentioned the folders because I didn't recognise them this colourful. Custom themes (and mods) are often cause of UI issues, so wanted to be sure.
On my end they are grey with only a slight theme colour accent. (latest twilight 1.17t - buildID 20251012110559)

But now I see this blue is the default light-mode version when no theme colour is selected at all.

@simon-bd Besides mods no themes either? Being double sure here because we saw a lot of issues caused by the Nebula theme that many users installed.

@Propheticus No themes either, tested troubleshoot mode, no dice :(

Created a new profile, and when I opened a new browser with that profile, the issue was gone. I’ll try to see if I accidentally set some wrong flags or something else in the past that could be causing this, even though I'm fairly certain I didn’t...
