Preliminary Checks

  • I have read and understood the important section above.
  • I have searched existing issues and avoided creating duplicates.
  • I am not filing an enhancement request.
  • I have checked that this issue cannot be reproduced on Mozilla Firefox.
  • I have checked that this issue can be reproduced once I removed all my Mods and Custom CSS.

What happened?

Normally a glance tab will inherit the container of the parent tab.

Using an extension like Containerise, you can force specific websites into containers.
If a glance tab leads to a website in a different container, then the glance tab is moved to a separate new tab.

This happens on essential and pinned and unpinned tabs

zen.workspaces.force-container-workspace is false.

Expected behavior

glance tab in other container stays a glance tab

Actual behavior

glance tab in other container is moved to separate new tab

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install Containerise
  2. create containers in settings labeled Search & Stores
  3. in about:extensions click containerise and then it's preferences
  4. mark checkboxes for Match Domain & Keep Old Tabs
  5. copy

duckduckgo.com , Search
apple.com , Stores

  1. open containerise buttons popup, click "CSV editor" (pencil)
  2. paste clipboard from step 2
  3. click "save" (floppy disk)
  4. navigate to duckduckgo
  5. search apple.com
  6. open apple.com in glance
  7. observe how the glance tab is instantly moved to a separate new tab
