Broken in GNOME 3.34

@zman0900: I'm working on this.
I guess I should give up on the idea of supporting also the old releases of GNOME Shell... it complicates things much more than I'm currently willing to accept.
So, I'm taking the chance to cleanup a little the code. It may take a couple of days, though, as I am a bit time-constrained at the moment.
