Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I found myself selecting one specific dataset from the list of available datasets in different contexts (i.e. a reference dataset).
Would be nice to have a function that simply calls select_metadata and returns exactly one result or raise a meaningful error/warning for none or too many matches.
