I would like to request the addition of the UCC (Unified Collective Communication Library) building block.

Have you looked at the generic_autotools module? You can use it to wrap packages that use the autotools build system.

For example:

Stage0 += baseimage(image='rockylinux:9')

Stage0 += gnu()

Stage0 += ucx(cuda=False, version='1.18.0')

Stage0 += packages(ospackages=['autoconf', 'automake', 'diffutils', 'git',
                               'libtool'])
Stage0 += generic_autotools(repository='https://github.com/openucx/ucc.git',
                            branch='v1.3.0', preconfigure=['./autogen.sh'])

(It's unfortunate that the UCC project does not provide packages with autoreconf already run. If they did, you could skip most of the package installs.)

A UCC building block would basically be a nicer version of those last two lines.

Alternatively to use a source package rather than git:

Stage0 += generic_autotools(url='https://github.com/openucx/ucc/archive/refs/tags/v1.3.0.tar.gz',
                            directory='ucc-1.3.0', preconfigure=['./autogen.sh'])

Cool, I will proceed that way. I see there is a already a NCCL building block that I will invoke before UCC. And will follow https://docs.nvidia.com/networking/display/sharpv300/using+nvidia+sharp+with+nvidia+nccl#
to build the nccl rdma and sharp plugin

Basically I want to enable nccl through ucc in my MPI installation
