Thanks for the very complete document. We discussed today Primer 1 with the whole Pasteur Group, and we're currently adding suggestions/concepts to the Google Doc.

Are there any specific learning goals or objectives for the module? It will be helpful to define those first. Learning goals are generally broad and overarching. Learning objectives are specific and relate to exactly what you expect people to be able to do after they finish the module.

Hey there, I created a lesson plan/instructor guide template to help organize these modules, and here's a version for Module 1. Let me know if you can't access this for any reason.

I agree with @mmarcello that it's very helpful to state learning goals/objectives up front, so there's a spot listed for those.

My suggestion: we use the student-facing Lesson Plan to outline the content/topics, and put the details and any text that you'd say while teaching in the Instructor Guide... @stephwright @FatmaZG what do you think?

I think that's a great idea! Keeps the modules focused and from getting too long. Also want to make sure that we keep in mind there are two delivery formats here... the primers and the modules.

Primers are short and sweet to get out the basic ideas & concepts in an easy to read form. Modules are for more in-depth training. Anything to add to that @zee-moz ?

@stephwright the only thing I'd add is that the modules should have activities/exercises and discussion sessions for a participatory in-person experience that can include group or paired work. I'd say the focus of the modules are using those exercises to provide depth and functional understanding of the content outlined in the primers.

Amel and I were just thinking about something to add in between or include at the end of topic 1: Maybe giving participants the opportunity to work also on a small exercise saying what concepts or key words could not be included ! (those that could be included in "Open Data" are covered by Topic 1)....usually people think about general concepts that remain vague and will obviously be included in open data, but that are not really aware of what should not be considered as open data...

Hey! I just created two documents for students to help them complete the "Evaluation of Open Data Examples" (previously called Case Studies)

The first one is for the Growth in the Time of Debt study

And the second is for the Human Genome Project

OK, @mmarcello and I have been working directly in the template for module 1... We're coming along with the Module 1 design/build -- Matt's case study exercise lay the groundwork for the Benefits of Open Data discussion.

And here's an ACTUAL empty template for the rest of the modules. Note we have both a student-facing outline for the session AND an instructor guide, with the guide being a home for that detailed content.

Hi,

@mmarcello https://github.com/mmarcello can we suggest to add in doc 2
another question about "being critical about open data?" The HGP is a
perfect example, gene and genome sequences were released in 2001, but a lot
of sequences needed "finishing" (close gaps...)and this took at least an
extra 2 years....meaning: a sequence being available publicly does not mean
it is perfect and could not change at some point.
If it makes sense here...
