"relevance": "By enhancing transparency in global food markets and providing a platform for policy dialogue among the principal trading countries of food commodities, AMIS particularly contributes to SDG 2b: Prevent agricultural trade restrictions, market distortions and export subsidies. In fact, AMIS has been credited for helping keep international food trade open during recent crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. AMIS information on the current food market situation as well as policy recommendations by the AMIS Secretariat, the AMIS Chair and the AMIS membership have been instrumental in guiding international policy discussions and forums, including the 2020 Extraordinary Meeting of G20 Agriculture Ministers on COVID-19 and the 2022 Extraordinary Meeting of the G7 Agriculture Ministers on the food security implications of the war in Ukraine. Indeed, trade restrictions and other market distorting measures seem to have been fewer and more short-lived in these recent crises as compared to the 2007/08 Global Food Price Crisis, for example, that led to the creation of AMIS.
