The remap_atmIC_m2m tool remaps the atmospheric initial condition from one model resolution to another. This tool is based on Wuyin's IDL code.

Why ESMF in particular? We've tried to move all remapping to TempestRemap.

Move this to the top. Explain what "m2m" means.

Is this for EAM only or does it also work for EAMxx? |
The remap_atmIC_m2m tool remaps the atmospheric initial condition (IC) from one model resolution to another with proper surface pressure adjustment for topography differences. This tool is based on Wuyin's IDL code. It is an important step to ensure numerical stability when initializing the atmosphere with the IC from a different resolution, e.g., running a new RRM with the LR atmosphere IC.
An example can be found at https://portal.nersc.gov/cfs/e3sm/tang30/remap_atmIC_m2m.
