Tools and Utilities

In this page we would like to collect a set of all the software tools and utilities useful for research, ranging from drawing diagrams, to generate LaTeX snippets, documentation etc. Why collect them here instead of searching on the web? Two reasons mainly: skip the decision process among tons of possibilities and be faster, and more importantly define a sort of standard, so that we can exchange files with each other painlessly.

Drawing & Diagrams

  • Inkscape The de-facto standard for vectorial drawing. LaTeX plugins availables.

  • draw.io Draw all types of diagrams with a huge set of shapes, from classic flowchart to Android and iOS phone shapes and graphic elements, to UML and more.
LaTeX compatible: check on draw.io for: ExtrasMathematical Typesetting, enable it, and write your latex code between double '$' (e.g. $$x^2$$), then export diagram as PDF and you're ready to go.

LaTeX

  • Detexify Need a particular symbol and don't know what is the code in LaTeX and which package contains it? Try this.
