Pre-release

DECODE Preview Beta Release

This is a preview (beta) release of the FIRST Tech Challenge Scoring Software for DECODE. THIS VERSION CANNOT BE USED FOR OFFICIAL EVENTS.

This is a very early beta. Screens and inputs will change between this release and the official release in October. This release is intended only for basic use of match flow & scoring during practice or at very early scrimmages.

In This Preview

  • Support for DECODE gameplay:
    • Displays
    • Referee & Head Referee Pages
    • Match Control
    • Ranking Points
  • Support for Practice Matches and Practice Schedule generation
  • NON-SCRIMMAGE EVENT TYPES HAVE BEEN DISABLED!

NOT In This Preview

  • Awards
  • Inspection
  • Advancement / Advancement Points
  • Playoff Timing (They are still the timing from INTO THE DEEP)
  • Official Event Types
  • Updated HR violation tracking
  • Referee training bubbles / Training Matches

The latest version of the scoring system can be downloaded from https://ftc-scoring.firstinspires.org/local/2026

Details

  • Updated Dashboard - The event dashboard has been updated for better visibility into "required" vs "optional" steps. Optional steps now use outline buttons.
  • Practice schedules are generated with a similar interface to Qualification schedules.
    • Practice Rankings are not tracked or displayed. RP are still shown on the Results screen but do not accumulate or persist.
    • To switch between active schedules, use the Settings tab on the Match Control page:
      image.png
  • The "Audience"-style small-timer display configuration has been removed for DECODE due to the reduced number of achievements scorable live. During matches the Audience-type Display will show the same large-timer screen as the Field Displays. Be sure to continue to properly set Audience Displays at "Audience" type so that they show the correct non-match screens.
  • The scoring overlay has some functional differences from previous season behavior:
    • After AUTO, the per-robot LEAVE achievement will be indicated on the overlay to provide insight into progression towards the MOVEMENT RP.
    • After AUTO, the number of ARTIFACTS scored for PATTERN points in AUTO is shown to indicate progress towards the PATTERN RP. This will not update to reflect TELEOP PATTERN scoring, as they do not score until after the period.
    • The number of ARTIFACTS needed for GOAL RP is shown in a denominator beside the ARTIFACT indicators. This will disappear during playoffs.
    • DEPOT, BASE, and TELEOP PATTERN points will not be reflected in the live scoring.
      image.png
  • A "Fullscreen Preview" button is added to the Match Control buttons when an overlay display is present during playoffs. This button allows showing of the full-screen version of the Match Preview screen on the overlay, which includes the bracket.
  • Ties will be indicated on playoff bracket displays via a small "+1".
  • Regional Championships (once reactivated!) will show a "Region High Score" for a match that has a higher score than any previous match in that region.
  • Alliance orientation flipped on Displays & Control page (red defaults to left). The "flip" setting will now put red on the right if selected.
  • RP-affecting violations have been added to the bottom of the control page edit tabs:

INTO THE DEEP Offseason Release

This release adds additional flexibility to support offseason events, including unofficial teams and greater schedule and playoff flexibility. See below for additional information, and the "Details" section for information on how to use these features.

The offseason scoring system must be downloaded and installed separately from the scoring system for official events. It can be accessed here: https://ftc-scoring.firstinspires.org/local/2025-offseason

This release also includes general improvements and bugfixes that will be available in-season next year as well.

NOTE

If you downloaded and installed the unannounced but available v6.7.3 offseason release, you will need to uninstall that version and reinstall v6.8.1 from a clean download.

Offseason-only Features

  • Cyan banner to indicate OFFSEASON build
  • Allows custom match schedule
  • Removes match count restriction
  • Reserve teams 99900-99999 for Offseason use
  • Allows playoff schedule customization
  • Syncing of data to ftc-events.firstinspires.org will work for Offseason Events registered through the Offseason Event Notice and approved in the Online Scoring System.

Note: VMS integration will not be available - The Event Admin will need to manually add anyone that needs access to the Online Scoring System through the event's "Add User" page. This would include any judges or scorekeepers.

The latest version of the scoring system can be downloaded from https://ftc-scoring.firstinspires.org/local/2025

Details

General Release Notes

  • Add configuration option on match control page to prevent starting match until referees have submitted the match init page
    • image.png
  • Add warning about creating event in FTC Live without import from FTC Scoring
    • Note: for unofficial offseasons that are not registered with FIRST, it is appropriate to disregard the warning
  • On rankings display, always show the most two recent match results
  • Add tiebreak indicator to bracket displays (+ N after match number for number of tiebreaker matches)
  • Remove Very Late inspection status and rename "Failed" to "Incomplete"
  • Fix inability to remove configured backup destinations
  • Add ability to set pit colors and have rotated text in pit map
  • At multi-division events, flag both event high scores and division high scores on the match results page
  • At multi-division events, during divisional playoffs, rotate through fullscreen divisional brackets on the pit display
  • At multi-division events, during divisional play, show timing overview for all divisions on the head referee timing tab

Instructions for Offseason Events

  • Either submit an OffSeason Event Notice or have your PDP request the event in the Online Scoring System using the "Event Request" feature from the Region Admin page. Please do this as soon as possible! Once the event has been approved, make sure your PDP grants you Event Admin access to the Event via the "Add User" button on the Event Dashboard.
    • If the event is Hybrid - the event request is required. If your event is Traditional, the request is strongly recommended
  • Add your teams to the event in the Online Scoring System
    • If you are running a Traditional Offseason Event & are allowing "B-Teams" or other unregistered Teams to compete, assign each one a number between 99900 and 99999 and add them to the event as that number. In the Online Scoring System, they will appear as "Offseason Demo Team". You can rename them upon import to the Traditional Scoring System.
    • Hybrid Events may add teams 99900-99999, but they will not be able to participate in judging. Online Judging is restricted to teams registered before the end of the season.
  • Import the event into the Offseason Traditional Scoring Software using one of the 3 standard import methods.
  • On the "Create Match Schedule" page, you can specify any number of matches and run MatchMaker, or you can import a csv with a schedule. To import a csv, we recommended generating a dummy schedule and then exporting it as a template and editing it. There are NO validations of ANYTHING when a custom schedule is imported. See below for additional info.
  • Run your event, and submit results to FIRST as usual.

Please see the FIRST Tech Challenge Off-Season Events Information for additional information

Creating a Custom Schedule

From the Match Schedule Generation page, the system can now export the current schedule. This will download a csv file that is formatted properly to import back into the system:
image.png

We recommend generating a schedule, exporting it, and then editing that schedule to import back in to the system. However, MatchMaker cannot generate a schedule with fewer than 4 teams. In that case, please use the example table below, which you can paste into a spreadsheet-editor and then edit and save as a .csv file.

NOTE: This allows for the generation of schedules that would otherwise not be possible. For example, the same Team could be on both Red and Blue Alliance. Because of this, custom schedules may lead to unexpected results with the Qualification Rankings.

Date (mm/dd/yyyy) Start Time (24hr hh:mm) Match # or Break Red 1 or Break Text Red 2 Blue 1 Blue 2
6/10/2020 9:05 1 1111 2222 3333 4444
6/10/2020 9:12 Break 5 minute break
6/10/2020 9:17 2 2222 3333 1111 4444

Alternatively, you can directly edit the CSV shown below:

Date (mm/dd/yyyy),Start Time (24hr hh:mm),Match # or Break,Red 1 or Break Text,Red 2,Blue 1,Blue 2
6/10/2020,9:05,1,1111,2222,3333,4444
6/10/2020,9:12,Break,5 minute break,,,
6/10/2020,9:17,2,2222,3333,1111,4444

Surrogate Teams can be denoted by appending a * to the end of their number in the schedule.

Playoff Customizations

The scoring system supports changing the following options from the Settings tab of the match control page:
image.png

  • Playoff structure
    • Double Elimination
      • This is the standard manual-documented playoff structure used all season
    • Double Elimination With Finals (FRC-style)
      • This is double elimination as played in FRC, where the last two remaining alliances play a first-to-win-two series
    • Single Elimination
      • This is the traditional FTC first-to-win-two bracket as used in previous seasons (Note: only supports 2/4/8 alliances, not 6)
  • Alliance count
    • 2/4/6/8 (6 is not supported with single eliminations)
  • Teams per alliance:
    • 2
      • Same as in current season
    • 2 (with backups)
      • Alliance selection works as in season; after alliance selection is complete, the alliance selection tab on the match control page can be used to add a backup team to any alliance. After the team is added to the alliance, any of the three teams can be used in any match. Which teams are playing in the match is controlled in the system on the scoring referee's tablet of which teams are on the field. Management of which team(s) are eligible to be backups, how backups are assigned to alliance, and which teams are allowed to play in the match is expected to be managed outside the scoring system for maximum flexibility.
      • To add a backup team to an alliance, select "Add Backup" for the correct alliance on the "Alliance Selection" tab of the match control page image.png
      • Then select "Accept" for the team that you want to add to the alliance:image.png
      • If you add a backup team to an alliance after you have already loaded their next match, pages other than the match control page may need to be refreshed to show the third team
    • 3
      • Operates as defined in the competition manual for the FIRST Championship

INTO THE DEEP Official Release

This release fixes a bug that could cause the control page to be nonresponsive before generating matches

The latest version of the scoring system can be downloaded from https://ftc-scoring.firstinspires.org/local/2025

Details

This fixes a bug in v6.6.0 where if an event had advancement configured and had not yet run MatchMaker, the control page would become unresponsive. This can be worked around by not using the control page until running MatchMaker, but restarting the scoring system to update to v6.6.1 is the recommended solution.
