Analysis of crime statistics in San Francisco, CA
(2018 - Present)

The University of Denver - MS Data Science
COMP 4447 - Data Science Tools I
Fall Quarter 2022

Research question: Can we gain insights into the 'where', 'when', and 'what' of crime incidents in SF?

Utilizing the datasf.org's Open Data collection, we start with a large dataset comprising police reports filed between 2018 and present*. At the time of writing, this dataset is being actively updated and will continue to grow. There is also an API provided by datasf.org to allow for updating the dataset without re-downloading. This API can also be used in the future to rebuild the dataset should the original file cease to be hosted.
Date Source
The police reports have been anonymized by the data provider, and reports pertaining to juveniles have been redacted. Reports filed with law enforcement agencies outside of SFPD are not included. See more details about the original dataset here.

*This dataset was downloaded Sep/Oct 2022
