Here's a first draft at a solution for #133. Comments please!

To apply to be a GSoC intern, you must write an application to GSoC and an
application to OpenAstronomy. Each summer, several projects are offered by
potential OpenAstronomy mentors, with well-defined scope and pre-requisite

while it's really an internship like thing, it's officially not an intership so we should try to avoid calling it such. What about changing intern to student here?

Also, there is only one application, so what about this:

To apply to be a GSoC student, you must write an application to GSoC ideally after you have discussed your project plan with your potential mentors.

@bsipocz - what do you mean with there is only one application? The student can submit up to three applications

oh, what I meant is that there is only one application per project, no need to apply to google and to the org. Whether the students can have multiple application with different projects that's something different.

I would drop the senior/junior parts. We had student who has just finished high school, and also students who were finishing grad students.

system expert to be eligible -- projects are available that cover a range of
previous experience in Python and/or astronomy. Underrepresented students are
especially encouraged to apply.

We need to reach out to more students, e.g. I guess Aarya would be very interesting is she's willing to share her story.
Maybe Axel, as one of the first students, too?

@Cadair - Was Alex gsoc or socis?

@Alex-Ian-Hamilton - could you write something from here too? It doesn't really mater whether was SOCIS or GSOC, both can go here, as the process is similar.

The definition on the GSOC floss manual doesn't say internship. It's also something NumFOCUS has been discussing how to call this. I would write it as in the manual:

... is a global program that matches students up with open source,...

I'm not sure whether awards would be better than distributes. I get the impression with distributes that they do to everyone.

I am not sure Jekyll finds links in other pages, a line at the end of the file needs to be added to make this link to work. I may be wrong though...

That's brilliant!! Thanks @bmorris3 for sharing it :) - Should we put your picture (or GH avatar) next to it?? Also, if you put your name with a link to your github profile it helps.

@bsipocz - the selection of OA is not made public till Google accept them, so I am not too worried by how it's said in the text. The rest I think it has been answered. Merge it if you are happy.

astronomical community is a bit repetitive here.

### What is the application process?

You must submit your application to the [Google Summer of Code][GSoC], but
it's preferable that you share it before hand with your potential project mentor

beforehand is one word I think

it's preferable that you share it before hand with your potential project mentor
or the rest of the community. They will give you feedback before the deadline.
Check the [application template][application] or look up for previous years
applications on the projects' wikis.

project has double meaning all along this page, would be nice to come up with more distinction between projects as gsoc projects and projects as OA members

while it is true that we would prefer to have astro/physics students, this sentence suggest that we are only excepting astro/physics students.

@dpshelio - I think we should merge this now, but would be nice if we could address my comments above (I'll try to come back to it unless someone is quicker). The only critical point is that while the aim of this page is to attract more astropy/physics students, we are not just accepting them but anyone with a good project proposal.
