Welcome to the ogs-data-exploration wiki!
OpenGeoScales is an open source API to explore and compare greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions at multiple geographical scales.
While several open data platforms and portals already publish relevant GHGs emissions data, using this data is complex and time consuming because of different formats, schemas, standards, scales, protocols, units, spatio-temporal coverage and data definition etc. Users of these platforms and portals need to identify and map the appropriate sources, as well conduct various data processing treatments (such as cleaning, recoding, normalization, cross-referencing and aggregating etc ) before using the available data and combine it with other indicators to create useful knowledge.
The OpenGeoScales API solves these challenges.
It uses GHG emissions open data to create a centralized access point for updated, accurate, harmonized, and aggregated GHGs emissions data at multiple geographical scales. It is based on an open source collaborative framework to provide a free and easy access to accurate and aggregated GHGs emissions data. The project is open.
All the data processes applied to the sources will be open source and peer-reviewed by a community of scientific experts, increasing the legitimacy of its purpose. The result is a compiled database that is accessible by download and through specific APIs for querying and integrating aggregated data into potential applications. The resulting harmonized GHGs emissions data are completed with consistent documentation, articles and dashboards for exploring its content.
