question: I noticed there's a chunk of content at the end of the Google Doc that isn't included in here. Is this intentional? I like that bit a lot and think we're losing something by not adding it to the page. |
|
suggestion: I think that instead of the phrase "Spring 2025 Quarter Challenge," we should use "Spring 2025 Challenge." It is consistent with what we did for the monthly challenges (month year challenge) and it's easier to say/type. |
Nope. I most likely took a pause, forgot to add them, and pushed without adding them. Nice catch! Thanks! 😄 |
For me, having "quarter" here would be clearer. But I would love to hear @BekahHW and @dominicduffin1 thoughts on this. |
I think keeping in the word Quarter helps to enforce the branding and promote the new concept. I don't know if we need the Spring 2025 bit though since it is coincidental that it is in the spring and the important branding is Quarter Challenge: From Idea to Stage! What are your thoughts here @BekahHW? |
Okay, that's fine. Then how about changing "quarter" to "quarterly" since we have "monthly" challenges and not "month" challenges? There's something that sounds off about combining two nouns together like that. |

I may be harping too much on some things that seem nuanced here, like the order in which we present information. I want to explain my point of view so you may understand where my perspective lies. The hard truth I've learned from years of administrative communication is that people don't read: they skim. They'll grow bored or become distracted if we don't get to the point quick enough. We have a lot of high-quality, useful information on this page, but the length of it is enough to make me want to slap a TL;DR on the top. I know some people will glance at this page and immediately close it because it overwhelms them, or they'll bookmark it as something to come back to later and never get around to it. Instead of adding a TL;DR (I personally only think they're appropriate for lengthy blog posts), I think we could use CSS to reformat the The Journey: Month by Month section to trim down on the vertical space. Ayu made the point earlier that people will most likely focus on each challenge as it's running and more the general info right now. We have a similar opportunity with the How to Participate section. There are two subsections that can easily be arranged side-by-side instead of vertically. I think the more we cut down on scrolling, the less daunting it will feel to end users to read through everything. If this is something you want me to look into, I'd be happy to do so. |
We have already gone with the branding Quarter Challenge. |
I think let's leave it as is, unless @BekahHW and @dominicduffin1 have other opinions. It will be a lot of work to do in a short time. We need this page to be up before our kickoff event on Friday, the 31st. This was also the reason I gave ideas to move general information sections to the top. So folks can get to them first. |
