Dependabot doesn't seem to know how to restrict its package updates to ones compatible with a particular version of Python. We build for the lowest currently-supported version, 3.8 (which is active for another 6 months). However, the latest versions of the dependencies that Dependabot has recommended are marked as requiring 3.9+.

These dependencies are only used for producing docs. We could start building docs separately, perhaps, since that's where all our requirements come from and the particular version doesn't matter? I'd rather Dependabot fix this, however!
