Carla-VISSIM Co-simulation

Hello all,

I am considering using Carla for my research thesis and by going through the documentation page, I stumbled on the co-simulation feature, which is something that I would be interested in since my university has access to PTV VISSIM licenses.

What I was wondering though, is the extra capabilities that the co-simulation brings. What is not so clear to me is the way the two simulators cooperate. Let's suppose I have built a network in VISSIM with all the parameters that it offers for calibrating the model. Once I choose to co-simulate, is the behaviour of the cars and the pedestrians designated by VISSIM (car-following model, Social Force model, etc.) and Carla just projects the actors (cars/pedestrians) on its world? Or does Carla just spawns the actors randomly and uses its own models for replicating their behaviour?

I hope I have described my thoughts clearly enough.
