User Testing Marvel Prototype
This round of user testing was focused on providing observational feedback for the use of the Marvel Prototype developed to present the concept and present the functionalities of the application to a user base.
This observational data was used to make changes and iterations to the prototype, developing a clear understanding of how the user will interact with the application and learning what a user expects (or learns) from the interactions. It was also a great test for the navigation and communication of functionalities.
To conduct these tests there was two different modes of approaching the users. In one approach the facilitator would allocate specific tasks for the user to complete, in the other approach the user was simply given free rein with the app and asked to divulge their understanding of its functions.
Observations provided details on the construction and lead to many iterations of the prototype. One such effect was on the presentation of the linking of articles. The original prototype only provided one layer of investigation, but after user testing it was clear that in order to effectively convey the major functionality of linking articles it would need to display multi-layered connections for the articles in order to showcase its ability to provide a flow of content. Therefore the new iteration contains a consistent array of interconnected articles as proof of this concept, this allowed the future users to explore the content further.
Another observation was the users confusion about the 'timeline' aspect, some were confused as to its function and execution, with a simple addition of each articles date, the concept was more easily grasped by the users as they could visually see the articles had been arranged based on the date of which the article was posted.
Furthermore, when articles were linked by the user it would appear at the bottom of the screen (as it is given a baseline relativity score of 5), because of this it was not always clear to the user that their addition had been made. Therefore a confirmation pop-up was added to provide feedback to the user.
