Enable and Install WSL2 on Windows 10

Requirement of Windows 10 1909 or above

Note: Need to be executed with Powershell 5 (not Powershell Core)

Step 1 Enable

  • Enable Features in Windows 10
  • Requires Administrative Powershell Console
  • This script will automatically reboot your computer.

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux -all -norestart

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName VirtualMachinePlatform -all -norestart

Restart-Computer

Step 2 Install Ubuntu 20.04 Distribution

Does not require Windows Administrative Powershell Console

Create multiple instances of Ubuntu existing distribution

  • Example script to copy and existing distribution to create a new one.
  • Modify script as necessary for folde locations.

Windows Terminal
