Games

Where to get

GOG is probably the best source, as the games are DRM free and don't need any launchers etc. Steam games can work, as some are also DRM free, or can be made that way, by installing an official patch. This only applies to games that are also available on non-digital platforms. Games on physical media can also be used, but might need patching, as all kinds of security DRM measures on the disk usually don't work well in wine.

How to install

GOG

  • Install on a true Windows PC and copy over the install folder to the RPi4 is the easiest way.
  • Downloading the GOG installer and unpacking it with innoextract is also easy, and can be done on linux machines.
  • Installing the the GOG installer under wine might be the easiest way, but sometimes lead to errors.

Steam

  • Copy the installed game to RPi4
  • ???
  • profit (?)

Physical media

  • mount the volume
  • start wine
  • install

Compatibility

First of all: Not all games will work! Some will right out of the box, others need more care...
