ArtNet Director is a Client-Server based application, for the selective redirection of Art-Net packets. Its original purpose is to facilitate switching between multiple users when restricted to a limited amount of Art-Net nodes. An example for this is a classroom of people sharing a single lamp rig connected to a single Art-Net node. Pupils can then quickly switch between who uses that node.
It is operated using a web interface meaning the application runs as a server on another computer, which can then be accessed by other computers in a local network using a web browser. The web interface is then split in two parts: The users interface and the admin interface.
The user interface is where a user can toggle transmission of Art-Net packets for each configured node. At the same time it shows the transmission toggle state of the other connected users and if a user is currently transmitting packets at this moment.
The admin interface allows administrators to perform administrative functions like creating new Art-Net nodes, disconnecting and banning users, or reading the log of the application.
To use the program you first run the application on a computer. An administrator then creates nodes in the admin interface where the users will later send their Art-Net packets to. All users then open the address of that computer in a web browser, you can find the address in the applications log. In their DMX software they set the destination node to the IP address of the machine the application is running on. The users can then toggle to which nodes they want to transmit their Art-Net packets on the user interface in the web.
